  1. Sparkle 2.1.5 A mac-look-and-feel MPEG and QT player and converter.

  3. This should replace Sparkle 2.1.5 in the info-mac archives.
  4. This version makes the following changes to Sparkle 2.1.4
  5. Two serious bugs were fixed
  6. * There was a memory leak when converting a set of PICTs to a movie, so 
  7. the more PICTs you wanted to convert, the more memory was needed.
  8. * A certain class of MPEGs was displayed with the color misaligned with 
  9. the underlying intensity of the image, looking like cheap Sunday 
  10. newspaper color photos.

  12. I have been making much more extensive alterations to Sparkle and was 
  13. hoping to release that, but that work's become more extensive than I 
  14. expected so for now this is a quick bug-fix release.

  16. This version 
  17. * is not PPC native
  18. * does not support sound
  19. * does not support apple events
  20. * does not support online help
  21. These are all high priorities, pretty much in that order.

  23. As always, if you find any bug or anomaly in this code please tell me. 
  24. The sooner you tell me, the sooner I'll fix it.
  25. As always there remain a few rough edges to this program, though I hope 
  26. most of them won't be too distressing to users. Like previous rough 
  27. edges, they'll be done away with in time.

  31. !!!    About 10% of the e-mail I receive has a bogus return address---I try 
  32. !!!    to reply to you and a few hours or days later I get a message from the 
  33. !!!    mail system that my mail could not be delivered.
  34. !!!    This is very frustrating to me and a waste of your and my time. 
  35. !!!    I have NEVER just ignored mail sent to me about Sparkle. If I don't 
  36. !!!    reply to you, it's because you sent me mail with a garbage return address.

  40. WHAT IS IT?
  41. Sparkle plays MPEGs, PICTs and QT movies and converts between them. It is
  42. multifinder friendly and, with enough memory, will open multiple 
  43. documents at once.
  44. It is free.

  46. REQUIRES: 
  47. System 7 or greater.
  48. QuickTime 1.6 or greater.
  49. An 020 based mac or greater.
  50. This version requires the Thread Manager. If you use MODE32 get the 
  51. latest version 7.5 of MODE32 before using the Thread Manager.

  53. You can ftp Sparkle from sumex-aim.stanford.edu (or a mirror like 
  54. mrcnext.cso.uiuc.edu) in info-mac/grf/util.
  55. You can ftp the Thread Manager from ftp.apple.com in 
  56. dts/mac/sys.soft/extensions/Thread_manager_201.hqx
  57. (or upgrade to system 7.5 which has the Thread Manager built in,
  58. since in future I will start to use 7.5 features.)
  59. You can ftp MODE32 from sumex-aim.stanford.edu in info-mac/cfg.
